Lyra Multiplayer Level

Project Type: University Project

Software Used: Unreal 5.1

Language(s) Used: Unreal Blueprint

Timeline: 2 weeks

This level was made in Unreal Engine 5.1 using Unreal’s sample game project Lyra. The Lyra project includes: 3 weapons, health packs, jump pads, and a dash movement. There are two game modes that Lyra has, control points or elimination, I used the control point mode. Though I think either would work on this map.

To the left is a complete playthrough of the level. I loved playing Battlefront 2 growing up and I wanted to make a map that felt like a Mustafar map would. I used the landscape tool to make the terrain. And some simple box mesh tools for the rest.

Level Playthrough

Blockout/ Landscape Tool

Making the structures for this level was quite fun. I was heavily inspired by Star Wars; I really wanted it to feel like something on Mustafar. I used the CubeGridOutputTool to create almost all of them. The level layout took a lot of remaking, given player and enemy spawns had to be accounted for. I wanted to ensure spawn camping wasn’t possible and for the most part it’s not. I created the main environment just using the landscape tool and some rock assets I scaled up.

Pickup Tweaks

This took the most amount of time in the project. I messed around with these jump pads for a while. I had to play many hours of Lyra to get a feel of how the combat felt. And after many attempts I tuned them to work with the flow of my game. The programming wasn’t hard, but just getting them to feel right took more time than I thought it was going to.
