Monkey Island

Project Type: University Project

Software Used: Unreal 5.1

Language(s) Used: Unreal Blueprint

Timeline: 3 weeks

For this project I was tasked with creating a HUB area that would act like a town or city in a MMO RPG. I went for a kind of humorous vibe for this project. I wanted the player to be the chief of this island that is inhabited by these crazy monkeys that sole purpose is to make the island inhabitants hate their lives. I had so much fun with this level, but the time restraint was difficult to do everything I wanted. That being said I do feel like I got a lot done for 2 weeks.

Level Playthrough

Quest System

For this project I made a pretty in-depth questline or multiple rather. I didn’t make a system for them I just didn’t have the time. I was a week behind and only had 2 to create everything. I made 4 separate questlines for certain NPCs. Each with unique audio pertaining to each NPC. It was fun creating mini stories for the people on this made-up island. I wish I had more time to make the quests more in depth than just a simple fetch quest, but I think they suffice for what the project goals were.

Blockout

This blockout was an interesting one. I initially wanted to go in a completely different direction at first. As you can see to the right - >. This was my initial concept was that. I attempted it and ended up wasting a whole week designing it. But that happens here and there. Anyways creating this island was immensely fun. There are a few snaps of what I did below. This was the first time I used the CubeGridOutputTool and it was amazing. I always use it for making props and structures now. The only thing I don’t love about it is the lack of ease when trying to make curves.
